Summary and tough questions

From where I last left off in the book LoveTorn, I have read that the main character has fallen in love with the man she met. She is constantly trying to get away from her true self, but it is difficult to become someone new in a matter of days. Shalini is trying to make it seem as if she was someone completely different from what her family is. The man she loves know the new side of her not the side of tradition and arranged marriage. Her marriage has been arranged since she was 3, now imagine that! If I had an arranged marriage oh man would I be mad!! Either way Shalini is trying to tell her boyfriend but just doesn't seem to know how.
One of her situations would be to try to come clean to her boyfriend. Some thoughts in her head would be, will he accept me? Will he leave me? She is always debating on wether she should tell him or not. This will be a person vs. self conflict because it has to do with what she believes.

Summary and character analysis

In the book i've been reading Lovetorn by Kavita Daswani the book mainly is about, This girl who leaves the the U.S and falls in love, but at home she already has a fiancé. Her family had already arranged her marriage before the time she was born. The main character finds herself in a sticky situation. The person she loves only knows her by what she tells him. So their relationship now is a lie.
From what I've read I can say that the main character is desperate to get away from tradition. If she needed to leave her country and remove herself completely then it just shows she wasn't liking the way she lived before. She is also desperate for love and a new beginning. The only way she got it was to leave.

Summary and tough questions

From where I left off in Go Ask Alice I have read that Alice is living a better life but only for some short amount of time.  Alice seems to be living a calm life but then always goes back to the old ways. Now Alice has taken on a new job, she is a cleaner in an expensive hotel and the owners adore her. Alice and her roommate are going to eat dinner with them this Sunday. Alice is trying to get back on track but now she has to work harder to pay off her drug money dues.
One of her tough questions would be, "Should I just give up", She begins to realize that living on her own is really hard and she wants to end it. Her only escape are drugs. Alice sometimes has her own type of saying that helps her get through things. She really is trying her best in life but she always ends up in failure.

Summary and Character Analysis

In the story "Go Ask Alice" I have read that Alice becomes a 15 year old drug user. In that time she left home and began living on her own with one of her roommates. She had this boyfriend named Roger who she wanted to live with forever. When Alice left her so called horrible house she believed she was free. Through that struggles came and she began to see that she couldn't do it on her own. I believe that even though she was going through some hard times she didn't need to act in a certain matter.
Alice is a heartbroken and torn 15 year old. She doesn't have any moral support from her family. She is really and out-stander. Alice would be known as the one that no one talks to. From reading the book a can see that this Alice is looking for some closure and guidance from something, but she cant figure out what.

Would We Be Killed? (Native Americans)

American Indians were marginalized and made to feel as if they didn’t exist in the way of having to kill off every part of their culture. In the text it states that "the students were given Christian first names. Ota Kte was given the name Luther. As for a last name, school officials usually translated each child’s Indian name into English. But Ota Kte’s name meant “plenty kills,” which was considered too “savage.” So Ota Kte took his father’s name, which is how Ota Kte became Luther Standing Bear. Along with his new name came a new look." This proves that anything that portrayed an American Indian it was to be cut off and forgotten about. They became different people.
The purpose of Shanice Britton's essay was to inform us of how her culture is really no different from any other human. Shanice lives a normal teen life and it is very similar to people who aren't in tribes. Shanice was raised knowing how to do things that her tribe would do. She was taught to do beading and sewing and other things. In the text it said that " Another thing that elders in my tribe taught me was how to weave and do beadwork". Even though she knows how to do these things she is still and American and is like any other person. I as a reader can see that Shanice is just like me, maybe a little older but she is into things my friends would like. I wouldn't treat her any different.

Summary and Memory moments

From where I left off in the book A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer I have read many new things. The main character David is now in a foster home but then gets moved around into different homes. In the book it talks about David being "bad" or causing trouble, thats the reason why he is being relocated into a different home. One home was just a bunch of trouble with children, the home that he is in now is somewhat similar.  The home he is in know has a lot of screaming within the marriage, the foster mom treats David like her personal toy. So far I have read that the fosters are getting a divorce over an affair and David is put in the middle.
David has lots of memory moments in the foster home he is in now. Since the couple is always fighting he has the fear of having the mom take it out on him In the book it states that he sits in the corner with a cover over his head expecting punishment but never gets hit. He is always worried but realizes that nobody is like his mother, at least his foster parents. The foster dad always reminds him of his real dad, very quiet and to himself. David likes his new home but is always worried of getting the punishment.

Summary and Character analysis

In the book A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer. From were I left off I have read that David has come out to the police and the child services have been helping him get away from his abusive mother. The court day came and he stood proudly restating what had happened and that he wants to be a warden of the state. David said he felt bad leaving his mother but knew that it would be better for himself.  " I fully realized that Mother could not physically harm me." As a child to have to come to terms of leaving his mother that shows his own bravery and the want that he has to get better.
David the main person in the story is very brave and courageous. I know this because even though his mother continued to abuse him he stayed with her. That takes some courage to stay when you're being abused. If I were David I would have told somebody right away. In the text it states that " I can feel the inside of my body begin to shake. For a moment I close my eyes, wishing myself away. In my mind I can see myself walking through the door. I smile inside" This proves that David inside is broken but when he comes back to reality he puts a smile back on.

Tolerance

Tolerance: The ability or willingness to allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of something in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not agree with.
Tolerance to me means to be able to stand things that I don't agree with. I can be more tolerant to people, when they continue to tell a story I hear a million times before. I just need patience to get through it. I can live a more tolerant life when I take things slow. If I'm always rushing then I will rush to my actions and do things I normally wouldn't do.
In school I notice these certain things about people that bother me but then I think, what if thats their way to let out stress, or maybe their mad and that their little "tick". When it bothers me I just walk away and keep my mouth shut. This has helped me be able to have patience with people that I can't walk away from. In the future hopefully I will be able to tolerate other things.

Invisible

That one time that I felt invisible was when I was 5. When my little brother was born I felt like my parents attention drifted from me to the knew born child. When he was born I knew that things were going to change but I didn't know that I was going to be completely ignored. See I felt like I was being ignored but that wasn't the case. I was really only not getting the same amount of attention that my baby brother was. Since then I have grown to know that I was always loved and nothing would change my parents relationship with me.

Summary and tough questions

In the book " A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer, so far I have read that the main character David is only nine years of age and is living a life of regret and shame. Though he has no reason to, his mother is making him believe that he is worthless and a piece of garbage. Davids father isn't as bad but he lets the mother abuse him until David is almost knocked out by the pain. This book is nonfiction, it is based on his life growing up, he has other books after this one. One day David gets fed up with all the painstaking beating and just left one day. He ended up going into town on a late night and going into a bar or pizza place. People in the restaurant were surprised he was there because it was late. So of course the called the 5.0. That same night he was taken home by his dad and as we can assume he was beat when he got home.
One of the tough questions was when he questioned himself about leaving his family. Would he get caught? Would he die? Can he survive? These were things running through his mind, he wasn't really sure what he had to do to survive. David always though to himself maybe ill do better with out my mother and father, I was never really wanted. If any child feels like that they should really seek help from a trusted adult, anyway back to the topic that was one of David's toughest questions that he made to himself.

summary and Character Analysis

From where I left off on this book, Agent Harris from the FBI is the main reason the original Falconer case was turned down. Due to this he has to carry the guilt of having to stop the search party because it has been to long and it is costing to much money to continue the search. Though we know that Meg is still out there.

Meg is a brave and courageous girl. I know this because from the beginning I read that she fought before she even went inside the van, she kicked and screamed before she entered the van. Also in the story I read that even in the search party she was keeping herself strong even though she was not being found. That shows bravery.

Summary and Memory Moments

Based on where I left off in "The Abduction Kidnapped by Gordon Korman" I saw that Aidan, Megs brother was still willing to risk every inch of his life to save is sister. Even after the abduction he still ran after the van. In the text it states that he got onto a scooter and started going after the van that grabbed Meg. Aidan is a brother that is willing to sacrifice himself for his sister. Now in the book I have read that he has been different and is having the FBI come in and search everywhere for Meg. Now thats a brother that I would love to have.

Now that Meg is abducted Aidan begins to have flash backs of him and his sister. In the story it shows or tells how they grew up together. To read that they had a close relationship when they were younger is amazing. This is how I knew they were memory moments because they were flashbacks.

Summary and Character Analysis #6

In the book The Abduction Kidnapped by Gordon Korman. So far I have read that the main character Meg is living a regular teen life with her brother Aidan and her family. They argue, laugh, and have lot of family time until that one day. It was Aidan and Meg alone and out of no where a van comes up behind them and struggles to take Meg. Aidan was the one who was yelling for help but no one paid attention. Aidan fought with the man in a spiderman mask, then the driver said " They're calling the cops lets go", that caused the man to leave Aidan beaten on the ground and alone.

The character Aidan is a very brave young man. I know this because in the story he was the one to fight back when they took Meg. He was the one screaming to call 911 while he was fighting the kidnappers. In the text it said that Aidan said "call 911, someone help" while he was trying to get his sister back. That clearly proves that he was a brave brother and was willing to get hurt for his sister.

Finishing up Selena and Aha-Moments

The previous blog was on how Selena's best friend was a thief. Continuing on with the book I read that Selena confronted Yolanda and things went down! when Selena would confront Yolanda she would make excuses of why she needed the money and why she would waste it on personal belongings. Selena was fed up, Selena told Yolanda to give back every cent she used, Yolanda was ferrous. She didn't have that money, she would go bankrupt, so what did she do, she played Selena once again. Yolanda called Selena to meet her at a hotel so she could receive the check with all the money, of course Selena went but when she arrived Yolanda was ready to fight. She caught Selena by surprise and Selena fought right back, but when Yolanda pulled out her gun the first thing for Selena was to run and she did. Yolanda fired and it shot Selena in the shoulder which caused tragic and horrifying internal bleeding. Selena died that day which was on March 31, 1995.

While I was reading this book I noticed that Selena was a very trustworthy person and someone who has lots of trust with friends. I know this because in the text it stated "Yolanda was her manager". This shows that Selena was able to put trust in her own friends, I as a person would not, I would get someone professional. Also I saw that Selena was one of a kind. To this day no one has beat Selena's vocal abilities. We had Whitney Houston, but Selena had the vocals as an infant. I know this because in her book it talked about, "Selena started her career as young as 10" This proves that she started her life as a worker but not a child. She worked harder than anybody at 10.

Continuing with Selena with Memory Moments

From were I left off, I have read that Selena started her career at a very young age and began going all around the world when she got record deals and so on. Selena had her best friend manage her money and book places were she would perform. Selena noticed something was wrong with the money count, She wondered what had happened if her "best friend" was managing it. Selena then realized that her friend had been stealing money, OMG her "friend" is a thief! Selena confronted her and things went spiral. In the text it says that, "By March, evidence of embezzlement by Yolanda Saldivar had piled up." Also, " Selena was confused. She had trusted this woman.......And now she is betraying her family?.." In conclusion we see that Selena's friend was fake.

In the book Selena by Veda Boyd Jones, it talked about Selena remembering what her childhood was before she became a big shot in the music industry. Selena talked about being smart in her classes, her teacher said " Selena was an amazing student." That proves that even though Selena was always on the road performing she always was getting her work done and continuing on with her school work. Selena was always reminding her self of her friends when she would perform, she never forgot of were she came from.

Summary of Selena Quintanilla and Character Analysis

In the Book Selena by, Veda Boyd Jones, So far I have read that Selena was an American singer and songwriter. She was named the "top Latin artist of the '90s". Selena started singing at a very young age and began working or performing at wedding, dinners, get together etc. around 13. In the book it talked about Selena being raised as a Jehovahs Witness, from what I know about Jehovahs Witness I believe that her becoming a pop star and not singing for God would be a contradiction. In the book it talks about having a family band, her brothers would play guitar or piano and she would be the singer. Selena loved to sing Tejano music, in other words Mexican country music. Tejano Music is not big in America but many people still listen to Selena's music.

Selena is a Tejana young lady that would go to school and come home like a normal child, until people discovered that she had a voice on her! Ever since her family and friends found out that she had an amazing voice, they would set up record listening for her, parties, dinners and weddings. Selena found this stressful, though she was an amazing student she did have to leave school and be a full-time performer. In the book it tells on how she become famous and how she felt and reacted. Selena always loved music though she never really got to live her life.

Imperfect spiral summary and tough questions sign post.

From were I left off in the book Imperfect Spiral by Debbie Levy, When the main character goes to testify the judge begins to tell the story of what happened to Humphrey. Now we know that the people that were driving were immigrants which makes it worse for the driver that hit Humphrey. Humphrey's parents no longer trust the babysitter and are fighting for safety changes. The neighborhood is now having changes to the streets, such as, side walks, lights, and stop signs. There are more things that Humphrey's parents are changing but you have to read Imperfect Spiral to find out.
One hard question for Danielle would be wether to blame herself for it or not. In the book I see that she is miserable just with the fact that a boy died under her supervision. Especially now that she has to go and hear the story over and over again in the courts she is finally letting it in and realizing she couldn't have done anything to change what happened to Humphrey.

Imperfect Spiral summary and Character analysis

In the book "Imperfect Spiral by Debbie Levy", the main situation talked about in this book would be when Humphrey gets killed by a car accident. In the book so far I have gotten into reading the situation in more detail, from who was there, who saw it, and who experienced it happen. The character Danielle Snyder is the main character who experiences the death of Humphrey close up, there fore she believe's it is her fault he is dead. Danielle soon finds out about Justin who is her "friend" (actually they feel more for each other), turns out he had something to do with the accident.
f
Danielle Snyder is a regular, funny, outgoing until Humphrey dies in a tragic car accident. In the book it speaks about Danielle being a babysitter, talking to her friends and just having a normal teenage life. After the death of Humphrey she becomes depressed, confused and all sorts of things. In the book I read that she felt as if it was her fault, if only she had kept a closer eye on him it wouldn't have happened. Now she has become more of an understanding person but still tries to find out the truth of who was driving that blue minivan that killed Humphrey. I know this because in the book it talks about her going to court to testify what had happened but her herself doesn't know the whole truth. Will we ever find out?

2015 Goals!!!

What are my goals this year?? This year academically I want to achieve being on the honor roll for the rest of the eighth grade year, and at the end of the year I will try to shoot for valet victorian. I want to achieve being on the honor roll for the rest of the year because high schools look at your grades. The high school that I'm going to recommends us to be in all AP or honors classes. Knowing that I can be in honors here at Heritage, it allows me to have an idea of what I can do in high school. Valet victorian is something that is very challenging to accomplish. I am a determined girl who loves to take on a challenge. Other people have a higher percentage of getting valet victorian, but knowing that I tried gives me the satisfaction of knowing I did my best this year.
My personal goal would be to become a leader in 8B. To be a leader it consists of having trust from all your teachers, being a responsible person, a caring person, someone who is open minded and available for any reason during school. I feel like I am the things I listed above. Though I have these characteristics I would love to make them stronger and better. To make these characteristics stronger I would join certain groups who help out the community and our school, I would surround myself with the right crowd. 8B does need a different direction push, 8B has people who are not so encouraged to come to school, I would love to change that and show them that school isn't so bad.
